Field Trip
Oct. 26th, 2008 09:53 pmI went to that field trip today. It was SO much fun!!! The students loved it! We spent the whole afternoon there, the guys are a lot of fun and we played fun games together. The trip was very useful and the students got the opportunity to practice English in a true immersion environment. No Portuguese was allowed and the pressure made them learn so much.
The manager was really so nice, talkative and easygoing, the waiters as well and we can really tell that they LOVE their work. It was expensive (OMG!), but very worth the money. We played bingo (and I didn't win a thing xD), talked a lot and got to see a true professional kitchen. It's so cool! They have a bunch of cooks and other employees and everything works so perfectly. The manager (Rick) said that they have over 100 people eating at the same time in a normal Friday night, and everything needs to happen smoothly. The system that they use is the most excellent there could be, because they have an international standard to follow. Codes, different colors, and all that screaming we see in reality TV shows is very true, lol. He took us inside the freezer (which is called Chicago, lol) and the refrigerator and they are both HUGE (not to mention cold too! -17ºC!). He even locked us inside and turned off the lights!
Rick talks a lot and spent the whole time chatting in English with us. He's Dutch, his mother is Brazilian and so is his wife, so he speaks Portuguese very well. He started working at hotels and lived in the USA for 20 years before being transfered to Brazil to work as manager of TGI Friday's here. He really likes to talk, lol, doesn't matter the language, and he speaks a few.
The fun thing is that it was the birthday of one of the teachers that went from another unit of the school and they made this whole show for her. She had to go up on top of a chair, dance and sing, lol. They sang a bunch of songs, and Rich even sang Happy Birthday in Dutch.
To top everything, it was really very hot today! I got lost for about 20 minutes, but I have a good sense of direction and everything was under control in a short time. We even arrived earlier and had some time to go to the mall. I think it today was the hottest day of the year so far. Over 30ºC, I just melted inside that car for over two hours.
I'll post some pictures when I get them. I don't have a camera, so I'll have to ask for the people that took to send the pics by e-mail.
After all that, I arrive home and find over 30 new e-mails since this morning! I guess I'll have some work to do for the comm before going to bed ^_^.
