Yes, I watched it

I saw Torchwood days 4 and 5 last night. Let's just say that I'm glad for not knowing how deep the fandom explosion was before I watched it.

I was very much unspoiled and loving series three beyond any other TW or DW was capable of doing. Then I watched the ending and seriously cried myself to sleep last night. Thinking about all the shit RTD threw at us still makes my eyes tear up and it's bad. It's really, really bad.

He pretty much killed the show. I honestly can't see Torchwood continuing afterwards. And even if they are bold enough to go for a series four, I can see the ratings dropping like a stone in a pond.

I had always admired RTD's ability to NOT press a reset button, even when the fans beg and cry and promises blood-filled revenge for what he does to the characters. But that's got a limit and he just crossed it. Out of all the characters present in the pilot episode we only have TWO left, and only because Gwen is his favorite super-daughter and Jack is incapable of dying. That, of course, makes him an instantaneous angst bag and RTD can't seem to find a limit to cause the poor man more and more pain, ripping off his heart and soul in each series and pretty much ruining the character to a lot of people. I don't know if there is a writer on Earth capable of fixing it. Even if the man can't die physically, he just did in his soul.

And the worse part is that it was completely unnecessary. The plot was really damn good in the first episodes, we had background, great character moments and developments, an inciting mystery and interesting new characters. However, RTD ruined the ending with a plot-hole filled couple of episodes, killing off characters pretty for his own sick enjoyment, just so he could pat himself on the back and say 'how am I awesome'. Ianto didn't need to die. He saved some awful whatever-his-name-is character that had no juice to begin with and didn't seem to want to spare an extra biohazard suit for one of the most popular characters of the fandom.

I also thought it was hard to swallow the scenes with the parents crying over their children being taken away. Yes, it tore my heart apart to see that, but it makes me sad to think that they didn't put ONE single parent doing something, ANYTHING, to stop that nonsense. Any parent would jump in front of the bus, grab a gun from the guards, shout, yell, make a barricade, freaking kill someone to prevent their kids to be taken away by heavily armed soldiers. They must remember what happened the last time scenes like that happened, but still they only scream and weep as they watch their kids being taken to be delivered to aliens.

All the politic scenes were just too sad to be commented on, especially since I can really see those conversations taking place.

They killed Clem for no reason, when they could have saved him for the end and spare Jack of killing his own grandson. Yes, that saved millions of children, but it didn't have to be like that. Why couldn't it be an adult? Clem was grown up and he could still be affected. Why's that? That was left completely unanswered. Was it hormones? If that's the case, than it's really damn easy. Just give someone an injection.

No. Instead RTD just gave himself a huge 'I'm a genius' moment, let any plot-holes aside just so he could be dramatic a la BSG.

I can see him with an evil twinkle in his eye thinking how Jack looks way too happy and that something needs to be done to fix that, because damn him if Jack has more than one episode of happiness, family and belonging.

And damn him if he doesn't kill someone important just so he can cause a havoc among the fans. Well, I'm thinking that it must have backfired good this time, because I've seen LOTS of people vowing never to watch anything with RTD's name in it. And I know from experience that TPTB shouldn't dismiss angry fans making vows of blood, because I did one for SGA and I'm damn well going to follow it to my grave. I make silent prayers and cruel sacrifices to the gods every night so I can live to see the day when SGU will SINK the stargate franchise FOREVER AND EVER and I don't even care if I don't get a SGA movie because of it.

I guess this turned out to be rather long. And see how I managed to include SGA in my TW rambling post?

*weeps*
